Rosa Parks on American Currency |
To: Secretary of the TreasuryIn light of Rosa Parks' death in October 2005, this courageous and humble woman's image should be placed on commonly used United States paper currency to commemorate her contribution to the cause of equality.
Middle school students in Duanesburg, New York, initiated this petition in December 2005, after participating in the Schenectady County Embraces Diversity (SCED) Middle School Study Circles Action Forum where students met to discuss race issues.
We, the people of the United States of America, petition the Secretary of the Treasury to print the likeness of Rosa Parks, the Freedom Fighter who "stood up for her rights by sitting down," on commonly used United States paper currency.Sincerely,
