A Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for the actress Patricia Routledge.

We the undersigned request that the film, television and theatre actress Patricia Routledge is made a Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Patricia Routledge was born on 17th February 1929 and is probably one of the best character actresses from her generation. She has starred in numerous films, television programmes and stage plays over the years. Patricia's best known role though was playing the snob Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) in five series of the classic BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances. After leaving Hyacinth behind she played Hetty Wainthropp in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates and in 2001 starred in a true story called Anybody's Nightmare, playing Sheila Bowler who was accused of murdering her elderly aunt, a piano teacher. Patricia's theatre cv is also impressive. She starred in Darling of the Day on Broadway in 1968 which won her a Tony Award and has appeared in the Shakespeare plays Richard III and Henry V (both RSC). Whatever role Patricia plays she is always believable and convincing.

Patricia received an OBE in 1993 for her services to acting and was promoted to CBE in 2004. We feel though, it is time to go the full way and make her a Dame.
