Make Portland A Sanctuary City for War Resisters

To:  Portland Oregon City Council

Increasing numbers of people in the US military are questioning the US role in Iraq, and some are exercising their rights to refuse to participate in an illegal war. These brave soldiers are now forced to live underground or flee to Canada. We, the undersigned, urge you to adopt an ordinance instructing city police to not act on federal absent without leave (AWOL) orders, making Portland a Sanctuary City for GI resisters. As a city, we are against this war and we should welcome war resisters to Portland.
