We, the undersigned, feel that the USPS should not be above federal laws designed to help families such as the Fanmilyu Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Groege Ulrich, 45, is a postal worker in Scarsdale, NY. Most postal workers in Scarsdale start their shifts at 7:30am, but George has been starting his at 5:30 am in order to be home when his 16 year old daughter, who suffers from profound diabilities, comes home from her day program. He has been on this shift since her birth,
In February, the USPS placed him on the 7:30 to 4:30 shift without explanation, saying that "thyey don't have to accomodate him", which is ludicdous considering their own WEBSITE says that they will make reasonable accomodations for an employee caring for a disabled relative.
As a result, he has to work straight through his shift and not get paid for the last two hours, which has cut his pay by 25\% and caused him to owe thousands of dollars for his daughter's care. He has filed suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but there is no guarantee of success. Let us show the USPS that they are dead wrong.
The USPS feels they are above the law. Let's show that especially as a federal agency, theymust be fully compliant with the law and give George Ulrich his accomodation by giving him his old shift back so he can have his salary restored to normal and care for his disabled daughter.
