We the undersigned, join with Strengthen our Sisters and mothers who have been separated from their babies due to convoluted short sighted bureaucratic decisions made by the New Jersey Department of Children, call upon this tax supported agency to fulfill its mission of keeping families together. We want the agency charged with protecting children to be doing all in their power not to hurt them. We are calling upon the New Jersey Department of Children to, at all times, consider what is in the best interest of the child(ren), to help them by not dividing families.

    • It is extremely important that children not be separated from their mothers except in extreme and unusual circumstances. The system needs to do a more thorough job of doing their homework on the cases that they are assigned to make sure that removing the child is the best option for the child, and not just an avenue for revenge set forth by the abuser. Children everyday are separated from their mothers, who are the victims, and placed in the care of the abusers. These children end up growing up in an abusive home and suffer extreme mental and physical abuse, which can not be undone even with years of counseling services. The system needs to change its focus from the rights of the abuser to the rights of the child. These children are innocent victims in situations that are out of their control. Someone needs to stand up and be the voice for these children, who are more often than not silenced in the court of law and pushed to the wayside.

They do not look at the full picture of what they do to the children. They do not address the domestic violence issues when the children are taken.
