By signing this Petition, I am adding my voice to those of other Canadians, in joining Premiere Dalton McGuinty's call to extend the eligibility timeframe for the Cross of Valour and other decorations for bravery beyond two years.

Mr. McGuinty's letter cites the needs that exist in certain situations where an application for bravery may not be submitted within the two-year time limit - citing specifically Constable Garrett's case.

    • It's time to initiate judicial recall proceedings on those judges who continually under-sentence or refuse to apply maximun sentences for laws already on the books for serious crime and repeat offenders. I'm tired of the 'we don't have enough jail and penitentiary facilities' excuses commonly heard when handing out joke sentences. I would strongly suggest we scrap the YOA and start sending juvenile and maximum security prisoners to the far north by converting the old NORAD bases that were turned over to the indians years ago when the bases were closed into penetentiary facilities. There'll be no worry of escape and it would help build small local economies in the far northern indian communities by establishing them as provincial / federal security locations.

    • There is no time limit on how Chris' heroic actions and sacrifice will long be remembered, so in turn there should be no time limit on when he receives this well deserved honour.

    • I worked with Chris Garret as members of the Cobourg Police Service. I feel strongly that if it wasnt for Chris's actions that night, I could have been a victim, aswell as several other of the officers here. Chris is a hero and a life saver. It would be a great shame to have the two year limitation apply in this case, considering it took over two years for the matter to come to a trial.

    • This is just another example of how our government fails to support what is "just" and "right". May we all remember his sacrifice.

    • Honourable Michelle Jean - maybe if you had attended this Hero's funeral you would not hesitate in seeing that Constable Chris Garrett is honoured with the Cross of Valour, he was given one of the largest police funerals in Canadian history, this says something for this hero, "Lest We Forget"

    • Constable Chris Garret was a neighbour of mine, I believe that he diserves this opportunity and it would be a great honour in his memory for all he did for our community

    • It's obvious to everyone else in the country, politicians & judges excluded of course, that there is NO justice in the Youth Court Justice Act. Do the right thing here Jean, allow this late application as it was only held up due to the trial of the accused 'youth'.
