This petition is to allow step parents & step family members to be allowed rights to custody and/or visitation to minor children of no age limit, if there is no danger of the step parents/family members being involved in the minor children's lives. The law needs to be changed to give more rights to step parents/family members. Please remember while reading this petition there are many step parents/family members that still benefit the lives of children even after a divorce. Also please take the time to say a prayer for the step children of divorce & please sign this petition.Thank you to all who sign this petition from the step children of the world who have been hurt by parents who no longer allow their children to be in the lives of a step parent after a divorce.

- i think that this should be passed because its not fair for someone to get married to a person who has a child already then get attached to that kid then when the parent and the step-parent gets divorced not have a chance to get custody of the child or even have visition rights just like biological parents have over there child i mean come on they raised the kid also so why shouldnt they be able to have custody or visitation rights?

- I am recently remarried and I am more so in these children's lives than their own mother. I know if something was to ever happen to my husband, I would not be allowed to see my step-kids

- I have a grandaughter that is 14 years of age and her father died at a very young age. She wants to live with my daughter which I should mention that this her step daughter that I am talking about which makes her my step grandaughter. I hope that the courts allow her to remain with my daughter, which she has lived with for 8 years and she calls her home.

- I agree with this. With so many broken families now it will be a great act of love for step-parents who are divorcing again to be able to stay in contact with children they partially helped raise and were bonded to.

- I am a step-father and my step children call me "daddy" and they call their biological father by his first name and the "system" looks at me as a nobody in the lives of my kids. It's wrong! If anything were to happen to my wife, I have no rights as a parent whatsoever, yet that idiot sperm donor could strip them away from me any time he wanted to.

- I have been the only mother of my step daughter for 6 years and now cannot see her at all. It is not fair to me or her because I have devoted my life to her and have given her everything a natural parent has so I should be able to see her.

- My step-children's mother constantly tells them lies about me and events that have happened or are going to happen. I see them every two weeks, and the visits usually involve a lot of crying on the children's part and them telling me how their mother tells them not to listen to me or do any thing I say. They tell me they love me and that they don't understand why their mother tells them they're not allowed to love me. They are 5 and 7 years old, and are suffering terribly emotionally, and their behaviour is very bad most of the time. For the past two and a half years I have picked them up every other Friday for their visits with us, and this past weekend, their mother refused to let me have them. She and her current husband lied to the children, telling them their father was supposed to pick them up. When we tried to explain to them what happened, they didn't really believe us. The children are also sent to us sick and without any medication and we are not able to discuss any thing with their doctors

- i think step parents have the same rights as the birth parents.especially if they helped raise them and get that special bond with the children.they should be able to get visitation rights.i think who ever made this petition is a wonderful person for doing it.

- The children of this world are important and if they have a relationship with their step-parent that should not be severed due to divorce or death of the non-custodial parent.

- I hope and pray that this helps all of us step parents. We should have rights too, especially if we treat the children better than the absent parent does.

- I have a friend who was a step mother to a child. The child was hurt out of the divorce. It also affected my children who were friends with the step child. My children always ask to see her. But we are not allowed to because the step-mom cannot ever take the child anywhere. Step parents who raise the children should be able to have visitation to the child especially when siblings are involved.

- I have been in my step-sons life since he was less than two and after the loss of his father I had no rights to see him ever again.
