The Flagship Niagara fulfills the mission of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to preserve the Commonwealth's memory as a teacher and champion of its heritage for citizens of Pennsylvania and the nation.
The Flagship Niagara provides an immediate and dramatic economic return to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Erie.
The Flagship Niagara preserves the skills and technology of traditional seamanship as a part of our national maritime heritage.
The Flagship Niagara teaches the living history of the Battle of Lake Erie and the important role of the Great Lakes in the formation of our country.
The Flagship Niagara serves as the most dynamic symbol of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Erie as she sails to ports in the United States and Canada.
The Flagship Niagara welcomes an increasing number of Day Sail Students aboard each year, with over half of them traveling to Pennsylvania after visiting the ship in another port.
The Flagship Niagara's Sailing School Program has shown a 25\% increase in the number of participants every year.
We are concerned citizens who urge Governor Rendell, the members of the Pennsylvania Legislature, and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to keep the Flagship Niagara sailing and preserve her sailing programs.

    • I sailed on the Niagara last summer and was thoroughly impressed! Cpt'n Walt Rybeka is unbelievably knowledgable and very friendly. I learned a lot that day about Niagara's role in the War and also learned a lot about how tall ships sail, even participated in pulling one line, it was very hard work., I don't know how the volunteers do it all day.

    • If the Niagara does not sail, it would be a very very sad day for all us volunteers and friends of the Brig, who do so much to keep Her sailing and look forward to the 200 year anniversary in 2012-13. "DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP"

    • Now is not the time to let 20 years of investment go down the drain. Even one lost season would have serious, far-reaching consequences. Don't let it be said the ship went down on your watch.

    • Being a member of the volunteer sailing crew for 15 years I know first hand how the NIAGARA accomplishes its role as Ambassador to Pennsylvania, the CIty of Erie and as a educational tool that brings alive history and the War of 1812. It would be a shame to see the brig just sit at her birth, when the reason for building her in the first place was to SAIL!
