Starting August 1, 2008, Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell along with the CT legislature have imposed new laws among 16 and 17 year old drivers. These laws include no driving anyone for one year (with the exception of immediate family, driving instructor, etc.), 11pm-5am curfew, immediate license suspension, and to pass a 25 question test to get a learners permit as well have at least 40 hours of training before you can get your license.
Connecticut's teens are disappointed with the government's decisions and would like to get the message across that we will no longer accept having more freedoms taken away. We call for the State of Connecticut to rethink their decisions and choices, as people should drive at their own risk and it is not up to the government to teach us how to drive responsibly, it is common sense and ultimately up to our parents or legal guardians.
There are better ways to go about this issue, such as putting driver's education into ALL public high schools, instead of taking the easy way out and put restriction on teen drivers.

- This is a ridiculous law that only makes it more unsafe for teenagers who are "sneaking around" the laws. Teenagers who have been involved in accidents have been wreckless, not because of other passengers... Now, there are many teens being pulled over without cause, in order for police to fulfill their quota. I know of a teenager who was pulled over in Oxford, CT for a broken tail light. This was a brand new car with no problems at all when the parent arrived. This was a blatant lie on the part of the police. Where are the freedoms? While the teenager was wrong, this was not right either. We need to rethink this law.

- I think the new restrictions should be rethought for practical use, and the 1 year limit should go back to 6 months.

- These laws are only there for safety. At least 1 less person will die in a car accident because of them So, choose. Convenience, or someone's life.

- the new restrictions make the lives of teens drivers very difficult, for 6 months after obtaining my license i was unable to drive my little brothers around, becoming a burden on the rest of my family. The teens who drive speed and drive recklessly do not abide by these restrictions anyway, you are simply limiting the responsible drivers.

- I am a parent of a really responsible and mature seventeen year old who is also an excellent driver, and had driven extensively with me before obtaining her license. I strongly disagree with teens having to wait a full year after getting their license to be able to drive with friends in the car. There should at least be a way that a parent who strongly believes their child drives well enough and is mature and responsible enough to obtain an exemption from this rule for their child six months after they get their license.
