Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told a fundraiser in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Thursday night October 16, 2008:

"We believe that the best of America is in the small towns that we get to visit, and in the wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation," she said.

"This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans," Palin added.

The McCain/Palin campaign continues to charge forward with the politics of division when what we need now is a leader who unites us.

These are hard and perilous times. People are stressed and stretched creating a powder keg of pent up anger, outrage, disappointment and despair looking for a target. In an attempt to win the presidency, McCain/Palin is trying to ignite the fuses of hatred, division, resentment, fear and racism.

What you said about Barack Obama incited chants of "Kill him", "terrorist", and "traitor". Now in her most recent comments it seems that Sarah Palin is now trying to restart the "war between the states". She is trying to divide these United States of America by calling some of us "patriotic" and "pro America" and others not. These statements do not put "country first".

I am a native North Carolinian, born in Winston-Salem and my kids were born in Greensboro, NC. I am furious that Palin has used our state as a launching place for her campaign to divide us and am asking you to stop your campaign of fear mongering, divisiveness and racism.

I am asking all Americans who are sick and tired of these divisve politics of yours to join me in asking you to stop you dangerous politics of division. it is not the kind of leadership we need in these tough times.

    • Is she saying that people that love this country and believe in its promise don't live in the amazing urban centers of our nation? Doesn't some of the best innovation, creativity, and courageness come out of the think-tanks, universities and artistic and industrial centers that have proliferated where large numbers of people reside? What is that? This doesn't even make sense anymore.

    • It is really pathetic when you attack Sen. Obama in this fashion and turn around and attend joint functions with him acting as friends. If your allegations of him palling around with terrorists is true doesn't this implicate you? This is dangerous hypocrisy which must be stopped.

    • You are saying things for political gain which you clearly do not really believe. You have said you do not question Sen. Obama's patriotism; you have called him a good family man; and, you have palled around with him. Yet, you attack him in a way that is fueling anger on all sides. This is dangerous and a real leader would put an end to this destructive campaign tactic!

    • This type of divisive speech is so dangerous, outrageous and wrong. There are very impressionable people out there. Is this what you want, Senator McCain and Gov. Palin? Is winning the White House this way worth the tearing of the very fabric of our nation?
