Dear Amazon:
We the undersigned users of the new Kindle 2 respectfully submit this petition and ask you please increase the contrast of the new Kindle.
As it stands right now, the text is hard to read in most light situations. The background is relatively dark and the text is not black. The first Kindle had the perfect amount of contrast and we consider it to be a step backward to have to struggle to read now.
Many of us feel that this could be a deal-breaker and that we would rather return the Kindle 2 than try to read on it with difficulty.

    • I find the need for a book light in all but direct sunlight. In regular light even increasing the font size doesn't help much with clarity.

    • Note that all we are asking is that you make the DEFAULT font use the darkest shade of your 16-color greyscale. Or, allow us to configure the "color" of the default font.

    • I just saw a K 1 for the 1st time and can see how much sharper the contrast is on the K 1 compared to K 2

    • Definitely undecided about keeping this due to the lower contrast between the text and the screen. Me thinks it's how you achieved more battery life...reduced the flashing power. I'll charge the device more often thank you...or return to my K1 with the user replacable battery. Please fix the contrast.....K1ndlelover

    • Increasing the font gray level or adding a pixel to width (bolding) would greatly improve readability.
