STOP STARBUCKS FROM COMING TO SAN FRANCISCOS JAPANTOWN!
We, the undersigned are opposed to a Starbucks occupying the commercial space at 1600 Webster Street in San Franciscos Japantown. A Starbucks will compete with long-standing neighborhood businesses that sell coffee such as Benkyodo(100 years), Mays Cafй(33 years old), and Cafй Hana(17 years).
According to the Starbucks website there are already 55 Starbucks within a two-mile radius of the proposed site.
There are only three Japantowns left in the entire United States. A Starbucks in the area would not only compete with existing Japantown businesses, but it would also work against preserving and sustaining these important community businesses. The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency did not first consult with those most deeply affected by the decision to bring Starbucks into Japantown despite the communitys efforts to work with them.

- shame on Redevelopment staff for bending the truth (again), and shame on the developer for breaking his mealy-mouthed good intentions

- The appeal to San Francisco is not only that it has kept up with what is modern, but it also preserves the uniqueness of its neighborhoods within. Without this diversity, San Francisco would become another city without character and appeal. Many areas have lost this character and have nothing distinct or memorable about its surroundings. Please do not create the catalyst that will change an entire communitys existence.

- Japantown businesses which are local and home grown should not be expected to compete with international companies in this historic district.
