STOP STARBUCKS FROM COMING TO SAN FRANCISCOS JAPANTOWN!
We, the undersigned are opposed to a Starbucks occupying the commercial space at 1600 Webster Street in San Franciscos Japantown. A Starbucks will compete with long-standing neighborhood businesses that sell coffee such as Benkyodo(100 years), Mays Cafй(33 years old), and Cafй Hana(17 years).
According to the Starbucks website there are already 55 Starbucks within a two-mile radius of the proposed site.
There are only three Japantowns left in the entire United States. A Starbucks in the area would not only compete with existing Japantown businesses, but it would also work against preserving and sustaining these important community businesses. The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency did not first consult with those most deeply affected by the decision to bring Starbucks into Japantown despite the communitys efforts to work with them.

- The insanity that is Starbucks must be stopped. It really isn't necessary to have one on every corner. Starbucks represents the insidiousness of capitalism

- I am tired of this commercialization of the world. We are in danger of losing our uniqueness.

- We lived in SF for several years. We still return regularly to shop, dine, and take advantage of the unique entertainment venues "The City". Japantown is one unique neighborhood that we return to regularly for emotional and practical reasons. We support the shops that contribute to the Japanese flavor and culture of this part of town. A Starbucks is absolutely unnecessary and inappropriate in Japantown, as there are MANY Starbucks located near enough to Japantown to serve the needs of those who choose not to patronize the Japantown coffee sellers. Starbucks has nothing to contribute to the cultural aspect of Japantown.

- It's bad enough that one of the few recreation centers for youth and adults has been demolished for market rate condos. Please support local businesses instead of another Starbucks. People who need their Starbucks fixes can go three blocks away to the Fillmore Center.

- It would be doubly offensive to let Starbucks into Japantown after their anti-Asian racist TV commercial that recently hit the airwaves.
