STOP STARBUCKS FROM COMING TO SAN FRANCISCOS JAPANTOWN!
We, the undersigned are opposed to a Starbucks occupying the commercial space at 1600 Webster Street in San Franciscos Japantown. A Starbucks will compete with long-standing neighborhood businesses that sell coffee such as Benkyodo(100 years), Mays Cafй(33 years old), and Cafй Hana(17 years).
According to the Starbucks website there are already 55 Starbucks within a two-mile radius of the proposed site.
There are only three Japantowns left in the entire United States. A Starbucks in the area would not only compete with existing Japantown businesses, but it would also work against preserving and sustaining these important community businesses. The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency did not first consult with those most deeply affected by the decision to bring Starbucks into Japantown despite the communitys efforts to work with them.

- Please don't gentrify Japantown. It would be the first cutlural district to have a franchise or corporate business. Please help preserve Japantown and its independent businesses thriving. People come to Japantown because it is not the American way but perhaps for many the closest they will ever experience Japanese culture. Bringing in Starbucks does not support nor preserve the Japanese culture and independent businesses. Please do not let Starbucks do business in Japantown.

- I admire Mayor Newsom! Please do not let us down. I'd like to see Japantown develop into Asian/Pacific Islander Town w/o Starbucks! You can get Starbucks coffee anywhere. Why they have to come to SF Japantown where the space is limited!
