No Starbucks in SF Japantown

STOP STARBUCKS FROM COMING TO SAN FRANCISCOS JAPANTOWN!

We, the undersigned are opposed to a Starbucks occupying the commercial space at 1600 Webster Street in San Franciscos Japantown. A Starbucks will compete with long-standing neighborhood businesses that sell coffee such as Benkyodo(100 years), Mays Cafй(33 years old), and Cafй Hana(17 years).

According to the Starbucks website there are already 55 Starbucks within a two-mile radius of the proposed site.

There are only three Japantowns left in the entire United States. A Starbucks in the area would not only compete with existing Japantown businesses, but it would also work against preserving and sustaining these important community businesses. The San Francisco Redevelopment Agency did not first consult with those most deeply affected by the decision to bring Starbucks into Japantown despite the communitys efforts to work with them.

    • If you want starbucks there are plenty! Every street I turn, I see a Starbucks. Lazy freaks, people are getting lazy. Starbucks is a luxury not a necessity plus coffee can't be too good for you AND not to mention there are plenty of other starbucks in SF.

    • Please do not sell Japantown to Starbucks which do not understand Japanese culture and history. It is sure that Starbucks will drive out existing coffee shops.Once you loose the history, you can not buy back with money.

    • seriously who ever thought of this idea is an idiot!!!!! what part of japanese culture does starbucks fit in? puting a starbucks in japantown defeats the purpose of having japantown around. If starbucks is built in japantown then other companies/entrepreneurs would also want to start a business in japantown as well. building a starbuck would only wreck the preservation of the japanese culture. please do not build a starbucks in japantown!
