To ensure that upon completion and opening of the Durham Skatepark, that helmets and pads not be required for persons utilizing the park. The plaza should be a designated area where skateboarders and the community can meet and utilize the area provided by the city of Durham. Helmets and pads can cause more falls and injuries to experienced skateboarders, than prevent injuries. That helmets and pads are advised but not required. That persons who skate the plaza do so at their own risk, and can not hold the city of Durham responsible for any injury caused by using the designated Durham City Skate Plaza. By sighing this petition you ensure that both skateboarders and the City of Durham's needs be met. Working together we can create a skate plaza that is safe and practical for all citizens of Durham.

- Don't Waste Money on a park no one will use because of pads, like Raleigh is doing

- If you scare off everybody with silly rules, you are just wasting taxpayer money on a park that nobody will use. Listen to the people who the park is being built for (skaters, not politicians). Learn from Raleigh's mistakes.

- We don't go to your golf courses and tennis courts and tell you what to wear. I've been skating for over 11 years, I can marry, serve in the armed forces, and buy alcohol until it kills me. I don't need anyone telling me how to "protect" myself.

- keep it free, these kids have been doing it for years without helmets, it is a culture most likely not understood by the legislator. just realize these kids know what they are doing and they play hard but they play safe.
