To whom it may concern,

It has come to my attention that a large group of film actors and directors have started a petition for the immediate release of convicted sexual assailant, Roman Polanski. I understand they are claiming that his crime is a вcase of moralsв. Iвm absolutely positive that sexual abuse of a minor is NOT a case of morals, but a contemptuous crime of nature. That it is a demoralizing crime, one that pursues the victim for the rest of their life.

No one, not a famous artist, a high ranking politician, or a member of a prestigious family, should be above the law. Do we really want to continue living in a world where the severity of your crimes are determined by your wealth and fame? We have allowed that world to prosper long enough. Iвm sure this isnвt the last time we will be infuriated by a member of the вeliteв getting away with such criminal offenses. But unless we circulate our own petitions, and rally for what we believe in we should also be held accountable for these crimes.

Please sign this petition to extradite Roman Polanski to the United States so that he can be held accountable for drugging and raping a 13 year old child.

    • As long as Pedro Almodovar, Wes Anderson, Darren Aronofsky, Monica Bellucci, Alfonso Cuaron, Jonathan Demme, Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu, Wong Kar Wai, Alexander Payne, Jeanne Moreau, Julian Schnabel, and Tilda Swinton continue to show their support for fugitive child rapist Roman Polanski, I will continue to not show my support for their own work.

    • I am disheartened by the fact that so many in the public eye are leaping to protect "one of their own" citing the fact that a trial would be "heavy in consequences" for this criminal, with such callous disregard for the "heavy consequences" he wrought irrevocably on his victim's life. I am encouraged by the fact that there is a group of people able to see clearly that his actions were grave and immoral, and that they can buck the weight of the collective voice of Hollywood and fight to see this man brought to justice.

    • there cannot be one set of rules for those that have access to private jets and huge bank accounts, and those that don't - breaking the law is STILL breaking the law.

    • This is a crime that causes lifelong suffering for many. There is no good reason for not holding him accountable at the very least. To condone such a thing is criminal in itself.

    • A crime was committed and punishment has yet to be served. The pure fact that M. Polanski has purposfully skirted and avoided situations and locations that would force him to face the consequences of his actions, for itself, speaks volumes.

    • Thirty-three years ago, Mr. Polanski's fame and esteem, coupled with the very young age of his victim, bought him a plea agreement whereby he pleaded guilty to a much lesser crime than the crimes he actually committed. The plea agreement was designed to end the ordeal and spare his victim further anguish. But Mr. Polanski did not want it ended. Knowing himself to be much too important to face punishment for even this lesser crime, he fled the country. Had Mr. Polanski not felt himself to be above the law, this would have ended for her many years ago. He alone is responsible for the ongoing pain and anguish caused by the lack of resolution in the case. Is Mr. Polanski above the law? He thinks so. And failure to extradite him is tacit agreement. Please stop this miscarriage of justice.
