On May 12th 2009 a new fire bylaw 36-2008 came into effect. I am apposed to the restrictions this places on my personal use of my land and ability to celebrate cultural and family celebrations.
Dont persecute owners of acreages under 10 acres for events that havent yet happened.
I ask the Council to suspend and then modify the bylaw with real input from the Parkland residents. Why not at least allow a winter burn/fireworks season when there is a reduced risk?
Educate people don't restrict them.
Any change in the use of personal property should be put on the next ballot as a question to the people that pay the property tax, thats real democracy.

- Why were residents not sent notification of this by-law? If it was only posted in the Examiner/Reporter that is not sufficient. Better that your funding was spent on stopping the arsonists who repeadedly burn the yellow newspaper boxes in the County so we could at least read the paper and have time to object to such rediculous by-laws. How do you plan to police this by-law? How many people know about this by-law? Is it just a cash cow for the County?

- I am all for controlled burning, but to completely ban burning on acerages under 10 acers, seems rediculous.Stipulations on what and where you can burn would be a more reasonable comprimise. Instead you get all acerage owner in an uproar and frustrated.Maybe consulting with them would have been another idea, like a survey??.

- the county expects us to burn the wood from a windstorm in a fire pit? That would be 24/7 all year round.

- It is unfair that we will have to find a way to take fallen trees to the dump or try to burn in Pit!!!. Why is it our cost just because the odd person is responsible. Burning can be safe and I plan well for I do not want to loose my house. Way the cut off at 10 acres?

- a 2hr. to 4hr. training course on having a safe burn should be required whether you have 1acre or 100 acres. a owner of 10 acres is no safer than a person with 1 acre.

- Coming from England we normally have a small firework party on November 5th - Guy Fawkes night. We live on an acreage so our party is a great way to catch up with friends. We've just discovered we can't have fireworks this year due to a new bylaw. When did that happen? I thought multiculturalism was a government policy in Canada, but I guess one of our family traditions has just ended.
