On the 20th of August 2008, the City of Ottawa installed a new 3-way stop at the intersection of Limebank Road and Leitrum Road in an attempt to improve safety for drivers.
Although this is seen as a temporary solution until the widening of Limebank Road takes place (it is anticipated that this will happen in two years), the new stop signs have caused and intolerable amount of traffic for the residents of Riverside South during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
In our opinion, this is not a solution at all, in that the incredible amount of traffic that has resulted far outweighs the marginal safety benefit.
We, the undersigned, appeal to the City of Ottawa to reconsider its decision on the implementation of the new stop signs and the Limebank and Leitrum Intersection.

- The magnitude of congestion caused by installing stop signs far outweighs the benefits received by relatively few commuters who take the Leitrim Road

- The only thing adding the Stop Signs has done, is to increase an existing problem.

- The temporary solution has just shifted the problem BACK to River Road. The real solution to Limebank is to fix the road, shoulders and ditches.

- The lights at the new intersection should be sufficient to ease the wait for those turing left onto Limebank from Leitrim, when the light is red the oncoming traffic will be minimal.

- This will be a recipe for disaster in the winter on a 80 km/h road with no shoulder that informs motorists to slow down with multiple, horizontal, white lines that will be virtually invisible in the snow. Won't those grooves in the pavement to slow motorist's down freeze into to little death traps approaching these stop signs? Can you say accidents and law suits! Obviously someone from the city made a bad decision. Oh, that's right aren't those people coming down Lietrim from down town. Oh I almost forgot, how stupid of me. There simply shoud be no stop sign there until the intersection is improved with a viable solution (aka traffic lights)

- This New 3-way stop at Leitrim and Limebank completely negates the new intersection @ River road and Limebank

- This portion of the road is extremely dangerous in the winter whe there is snow and freezing rain, on most mornings and afternoons, this road can have 3 or 4 cars in the deep ditches. Putting a forced stop in the middle of this portion of the road is crazy. I live 7 km from work to home, and this new stop sign now puts my drive home at 30 + minutes, all that car idling is bad for the environment too

- Apparently this was debated on Nov. 2007 on the RSS Comminuty Forum, and there is an entry from Steve Desroches, who seemed have got the ball rolling on adding these stop signs. Email: Steve.Desroches@ottawa.ca. Phone nuumber: (613) 580-2751. Again, I think this was a bad decision. - Stop abusing us! That is the only road out of this community. Build us that damn bridge (you know it is not Bridge over Atlantic) that you guys promissed long ago. Or shopping mall so we don't have to use damn Limebank for every single smalest thing. I am honestly considering selling my home as this is totally unacceptible. What is temp solution for you that will last two years!? Let me put that in perspective. Even 5 minutes delay at that stupid, stupid sign means this. We work at least 250 days a year. We take limbank at least 10 (if lucky) more times a week to shop etc. It is close to 800 times we stop at that sign. Multiply this with 5 minutes each time it comes to 4000 minutes or close to 70 hours or 3 days. If you just multiply 70 hours with minimum wage $7 ( and that is shy assumption) it comes to $500. Now how many cars are there? Please please stop this molestation cough up a money make that road the way it should be. Shame on you all!

- Millions of $ spent on the River Rd-Limebank intersection to reduce traffic, hundreds of $ spent a week later to bring us back to square one.
