I'm writing this petition as a response to this one: http://www.petitiononline.com/cutiepie/petition.html. There are people out there who think nothing better than this of anime. People who come up with two bad examples and forget to check for good ones. They forget to mention such big hits as Pokemon and Digimon, which teach kids that good always triumphs, and that hard work, belief in yourself, and good friends will get you through life. Even if this isn't true, as a child you need these sorts of hopes and dreams.
And then, you have Spirited Away, which recently won an award here in the United States. Is this show evil, too? Is this show about courage and helping others evil?
Is it so wrong to believe in love? Is it so wrong to believe in being accepted? I see where she may have a point with Love Hina for children; however, I don't see the point for teenagers. Let's all remember the smash hit Titanic, in which the main character has a love affair behind her fiancйs back...and they show her naked. This was PG-13, and Love Hina is around those ratings as well. Does Titanic teach good examples? Oh, it's all right to cheat with some man when you're engaged, that's fine. However, to be a single teenage boy and turned on by girls...that's a no-no.
What the world is suffering from is a big dose of ignorance. People refuse to look at the United States of America and admit that we AREN'T perfect, no one is. There are going to be cruel and evil people no matter where you live. Rape, violence, etc... these things have almost ALWAYS existed, before anime even came around. Before television even came around. Who are they going to blame there?
And these people, who believe so fully in the United States of America being perfect, are petitioning to take away our rights of free speech. Trying to take away our rights of free press. If a company wants to put out a manga title and rates it appropriately, isn't that right given to them?
If you believe anime should be kept around, and that our freedom should be protected, please sign this. Don't let the people who are too ignorant to see the real problem take away what they don't understand.

- THANK YOU! Anime is not bad, it is a beautiful thing that teaches people things. That person forgot to touch on the beauty of anime. Hikaru no Go is one that teachs that you can be good at something if you try and it also teaches that if you work hard enough, your goals will become possible. People of this day and age need to learn that just because the Japanses bombed us back in WWII, doesn't mean that they are dilibratly corrupting us. After war should come peace between countries and that is what we are trying to do.

- It should be up to the parents to supervise what their children watch, NOT the government!

- Good point. I hope this gets circulated, as the attitude of 'make everything safe so I can raise my child on the television and computer' is becoming far too prevelant. I'm sorry if they can't handle teaching their children the difference between reality and fiction, and the values that they wish them to have, but it isn't up to the government to decide what is 'safe' for people to watch and read: that is for the individual, or in the case of children, the parent. Find it sick? Don't like it? Don't want children to watch it? Don't show it to them, teach them about it, or simply don't watch it. Anime is a very beautiful thing to many people, and often times, has a very positive theme. I've seen more offensive things on fox than on what is readily available to the vast majority of children in regards to anime.

- If they are going to try to ban anime, they might as well ban every movie hollywood puts out. Then America would be no better than a country who denies its people their rights.

- I don't mean to sound rude, but I think the government has more important things to worry about than anime that's inappropriate for young children. As long as parents are able to decide (based on ratings) what their child does and does not watch, then there's no harm in anime. Personally, I think that if the goverment had half a brain they'd use the anime popularity boom to bring in some money for our nation, since our economy is supposedly suffering, rather than just irritate the fans of said pieces of art. It's all about points of view, and if people don't like anime, that's fine; they don't have to watch it. However, the option should be left open to those of us who would choose to do so.

- Anime, while it has its violence also has many good points. There is no point in banning it if you don't ban have of the others shows on TV also.

- This person who is anti-anime is ignoring the facts here. One, Love Hina and Ah My Goddess..the two titles she mentioned, are on DVD only release. How anime is corrupting our children's morals is beyond me...and how she would stoop to insult another country in her scapegoating spree is just low. This lady needs to get a life and move on.

- There is far worse shows that should be banned before anime. Besisdes, if it was banned, it would be imported and downloaded anyway. It really makes me mad that people see something they don't like so they think it is evil.
