The SW Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) aims to massively increase house-building in Cornwall over the next twenty years.

1. We object to the construction of 68,700 new properties in the next twenty years which would mean the equivalent of one new house for every four existing properties in Cornwall.

2. Cornwall is being expected to take a disproportionate share of new housing. Across the whole of the Governments South West region, the proposed increase in housing would be 23\%. In Cornwall, the new figures would represent an increase of 53\%.

3. This will have an unacceptable impact on our environment, Cornwalls communities and infrastructure.

4. We consider it is unacceptable how a handful of people in unelected and unaccountable SW quangos can come up with such ridiculous proposals which, if allowed to proceed, will do great harm to Cornwall, our local environment and infrastructure - the residents of Cornwall should have a choice in the matter !

5. These unsustainable and undemocratic proposals have little to do with tackling the dire affordable housing crisis in Cornwall but are about promoting unsustainable house-building for its own sake.

6. We, the undersigned, call on central government to allow Cornwalls democratically elected representatives to decide what is right for our area and to deliver a housing strategy that focuses on providing affordable homes to meet local needs, instead of promoting unsustainable house-building for its own sake.

    • The only houses that should be built are affordable ones, preferably social housing. The decisions should be taken by local elected representatives following full public consultation

    • Kernow is an ancient and sovereign country. The westminster goverment has agreed to EU laws to recognise indigenous peoples and support endangered languages. The world is watching you westminister and waiting for you to become real in your actions and words. This type of action goes against the charters you have signed and agreed to uphold. The masses mightn't know the truth but the word is spreading and your gonna come unstuck so act and be true to your words and promises for the benefit of the current and future generations from Kernow.

    • this is not an acceptable incremental rise in housing stock. It's one thing to accept some of the burden for the demand for new homes, but it's quite another to be simply dumped on.
