We, the undersigned, cordially request that Mr Charlie McCreevy, in his capacity as EU Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, reviews and reverses his position that Malta-based bookmakers should be allowed to operate in EU member states other than Malta.

Our request is based on our belief that neither the maltese gambling licensing authority (LGA) nor its appointee, the Maltese Finance Ministry, have taken action in the case of Betchance, a gambling firm fully licensed by the LGA. Betchance have been fraudulently withholding players' funds to the tune of hundreds of thousands of Euros for close to a year, and are showing no intention to pay.

Since this is happening with the full knowledge of the LGA and the maltese Finance Ministry, and Betchance are still a going concern with a full LGA licence, players in countries outside the maltese jurisdiction need to be protected from further fraud and corruption. Malta-based bookmakers and gambling firms should be prohibited from offering their services outside Malta until the LGA and maltese Finance Ministry have demonstrated that they will not tolerate fraudulent businesses operating under a maltese state licence.
