Dear Ms. Fishel,
Thank you for your e-mail to inquire about the discontinuation of
products from the American GirlВ Historical Collection. We welcome the
opportunity to respond to your comments and concerns.
As we introduce new historical characters to this collection, the number
of items we offer continues to expand at monumental proportions. As a
result, we have found it necessary to discontinue some items in order to
make room for new ones. In addition, some of the outfits and accessory
pieces are no longer popular purchases and demand for them has
decreased. Therefore, a number of items from the Historical Collection
have been discontinued.
We encourage those who are interested in purchasing any items that are
being discontinued to place their orders as soon as possible when they
are featured in the "Sale" section of our online store. Discontinued
products are available in limited quantities and may sell out quickly.
These items will not be reordered once our stock is depleted.
We appreciate your understanding, and we hope that you will continue to
enjoy the many other fine products that American Girl has to offer.

This is the e-mail I got asking about the retired items. I've come up with an idea in my last petition, and that is that they should create another store for the retired items that they know longer have room for. Either way I won't give up and I want to see the retired items come back.

- I'm disppointed with the style of the new Bitty Baby accessories. The old ones were so classic and sophisticated and the new ones just look cheap. For example, the old bedding was pink and lavendar and was lovely and the new hot pink bedding is not sweet or classic; it just looks tacky and garish.

- By retiring items, AG is automatically making them collectors' items even though they told me via email that they never intended to have their items become collectible. They should have a way to acquire retired items other than Ebay!

- I am desperate for some of these retired items to come back! The historical "Dress Like Your Doll" outfits (not just the nightwear), the pastimes and artisan craft kits, needlework projects...I could go on and on. It is so hard to find them these days. If I'm lucky enough to find what I want on Ebay, the price is so astronomical I usually can't afford it. It would be so much easier if the company would just reintroduce them...epecially Felicity, Kirsten, and Samantha items.

- I wish AG would not retire historical items. Get rid of the modern dolls. The historical ones have some learning aspect to them for kids along with play. The modern oens are just play dolls and seem to be replacing the historical ones that kids can learn from. The dolls encourage kids to learn and read the books. They feel like they're getting to know their doll's character. Please bring back the retired items!
