Over the years Social Security has gone from being seen as a way to assist the elderly and disabled to just free money for the lazy. This has led to a lot of debates when it has come to the government cutting spending and the ever increasing national debt. Unfortunately, those arguments neglect those who actually need the income to survive. Recently, it has been announced that there will not be a cost of living increase for Social Security recipients, which forgets about those who have no choice but to live on the benefits.

Recently, it has been decided that there would be no cost of living increase for the 57 million elderly and disabled Americans due to the CPI-W, Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, dropping. This is based on the CPI-W dropping 1.3\% and includes over drops in gas - 29.7\%, food - 15\%, and electricity - 21.6\%.

While those look great on paper, the truth of the matter is rent and property taxes are still on the rise as is, in some places, electricity. Social Security benefits are more then just free money, for millions of Americans, including myself, it's the only way there is to be able to live.

I'm asking every one to sign this petition and ask the government to reconsider it's freeze on the COLA for myself and the other 57 million Americans who depend on this to be able afford apartments, homes and just be able to live.
