We the old students and faculty members of AMU Aligarh request your kind indulgence in advising the MHRD to amend the AMU act 1981. From very beginning it has been felt by the university community that the procedure for the selection of Vice-chancellor as provided in the act is not very appropriate. Gradually the process has resulted in the sort of election. It has resulted in the involvement of groups in the university actively campaigning for the election of vice chanceelor . Thus the vice -chancellor feels obliged to the group who has supported him.
The constitution of court also needs to reviewed . It must also have certain powers to give direction to the university without interferring with its academic autonomy.
The third most important point that has been brought out by the Sachchar committeee is the need to have satellite campuses of AMU outside the state of UP.

- The selection of Vice-Chancellor may be done by a 'Search Committee' formed by University Court only without involving University Administration (Out-going VC, Executive Council, etc.). Moreover, new VC should be appointed at least three-months before the expiry of the term of the outgoing VC. At least there should be ONE meeting of the University Court every year which should be convened by other than VC (who often feels shy to face University Court).
