To the Bush administration:

With appropriate respect, we and probably millions of Americans who love their country feel that an already terrible situation has grown from a ruthless killing of civilians in several countries to a potential nuclear nightmare.

While we pray that this administration is doing everything possible to end the carnage and halt the escalation into a nuclear exchange, it is time for stark facts. The U.S. approach is not only failing, as evidenced by Mr. Cheney's disastrous attempt to win support in his recent visit to the mideast, but it is growing terrorists faster than we believed possible. In the past year, put bluntly, hatred for the United States has grown at an alarming rate, not by people who hate freedom but by people who hate the arrogance they see in our unilateralism and claim to moral superiority. We do not need the placating silence and obfuscation of the corporate media. We need the good judgment and wisdom of someone who has proven peacemaking abilities.

We respectfully request that you elicit the aid of President Clinton. This suggestion does not mean that we approve of everything that occurred in the Clinton administration. But we must be fair and truthful, giving proper credit to President Clinton for the ability to broker peace that is now desperately needed. Whether it was through his superior intellect, his academic knowledge of the world and history, or the simple compassion for innocent people being killed, he was on his way to accomplishing miracles in the mideast peace process. Many believe he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in Northern Ireland. We were the recipients of
the eight years of peace and prosperity that we have too soon forgotten. In short, Mr. Clinton has proven himself to have the abilities of which we are now in dire need.

We suggest the establishment of the Department of Peace, as proposed by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and the immediate appointment of Bill Clinton to head it. Not only is President Clinton's peacemaking ability a proven quality, but his popularity throughout Europe would be a great asset in building true alliances, not faulty ones that last only when they are bought.

Our people deserve this. Our nation is threatened from within and without, and such dangers should forbid our playing politics or looking for personal gain during such times. We feel that the hearts of our founding fathers would be broken by the turn of events in the past year.

We believe that history would be grateful to the Bush Administration for putting these life-determining issues into capable hands.

Sincerely,
Americans Against War for Profit
