Dear Readers, Fans & Patrons of the Alhambra Dinner Theatre,
It has come to my attention that the Alhambra Dinner Theatre has permanently closed up for good. But this is a petition to save the Alhambra from permanently closing up and if you want save the Alhambra from closing up, then please continue to read this and then click on sign the petition to save the Alhambra. The Alhambra closed up on Monday, September 1st 2009, and the previous night was the last night for the Alhambra. The main reason why the Alhambra closed up is because of the economy. The economy has just killed them. The Alhambra was one of the very proud five remaining dinner theatres in the United States and it was the oldest dinner theatre here in Florida. When the Alhambra first opened up back on December 13th of 1967, there were only 150 dinner theatres in the United States and now only four remain. The Alhambra Dinner Theatre has almost been around for 41-years, and it's an historical and famous landmark here in Jacksonville, Florida. But Tod Booth bought the Alhambra from the original owner back in 1985. But within the last year, they've noticed a downfall in people coming to see the shows and within the last few months, Tod Booth has had to use his own money to keep the theatre open and going.
But for those of you who don't know what the Alhambra Dinner Theatre is, i'll give you a detailed description. There was usually lunch/ dinner buffet before the show, and then after the buffet, Tod Booth would put on a production of a broadway show. The shows had an intermission between Act 1 and Act 2. Also, a lot of people like Lisa Valdini and Jessica Booth, who are Tod Booth's wife and daughter have starred in a lot of productions at the Alhambra, and even Tony Triano, who plays Scrooge in a "Christmas Carole" every year, has been in a lot of shows as well. But down below is the official Press Release about the alhambra closing up:
August 31, 2009
PRESS RELEASE
SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS
AT THE ALHAMBRA DINNER THEATRE
As the longest running dinner theatre in the nation, the Alhambra Dinner Theatre regretfully announces the suspension of its operations effective Monday, August 31, 2009.
Since opening its doors on December 13, 1967, the Alhambra has served as a featured Jacksonville entertainment facility as well as a point of entry for many young professionals seeking careers in the world of theatre. The past 25 years of this 41 year run have been under the ownership and direction of Tod Booth Productions, Inc. Every effort has been made to continue operations, but unfortunately, as has occurred with other similar businesses, the Alhambra has become a victim of these difficult economic times. Economic conditions over the past year have severely affected the theatreʼs attendance and its ability to adjust its expenses. Management continues to explore every possible avenue to maintain operations, including discussions with its lenders and potential private investors, but current circumstances warrant suspension of operations at this time.
The management and employees of the Alhambra thank the many patrons of the theatre for their past support.
So Please, I need everybody to sign this if you really and truly do care about the Alhambra and if you really and truly don't want the Alhambra to permanently close up!!!! But we need over 2,500 people to sign this petition!!!! That's how many people it'll take to keep the Alhambra opened up and to keep it running. But also, Please think about all of the staff members, such as actors, actresses, waiters, waitresses, hosts, hostesses, chefs, and other staff members that are out of jobs because the Alhambra closed and some of these staff members have been working there for over 30-years. Once we get the goal of 2,500 people to sign this petition, i'll then personally give this petition to Tod Booth himself to show him that people still do care about the Alhambra and still do want to come and see the shows there. But when you sign this petition, please leave your first and last name, and please write your comments as to why you want the Alhambra to stay open. So PLEASE Sign this petition and let's save the Alhambra Dinner Theatre from closing!!!! I thank you for taking the time to read this and for signing this petition!

- Mr. Booth, Please try and somehow re-open the Alhambra Dinner Theatre back up. I will surely miss seeing every single show that comes there, as well as meeting and making new friends that work there. I'll always be the Alhambra Dinner Theatre's # 1 fan! I'll miss you, Mrs. Booth, Jessie, and everybody else! Thank you for all of the great and wonderful memories that I have of the Alhambra! But please re-open the Alhambra and don't let it permanently close! I'm going to do everything within my power to get the Alhambra re-opened. Thanks again for the memories and thank you, Mr. Booth! Sincerely, Justin Day :)

- I have been going ever since I was a child! My parents went there when they were dating, and my husband and I went there when we were dating. I have many great memories there and I was truly saddened when I heard the news. I pray that if there is any way it can reopen, it will. I can't imagine life without it. We always went once or twice every year, and while we haven't been recently, we fully intended to start going again once my husband found a job. I sure hope we will be able to when that time comes!

- It is important for Jacksonville to have a wholesome venue for live theatre. In addition to providing great entertainment, it gives wonderful acting opportunities for kids and adults. It's often a springboard for the really talented to move forward in their career after being taught and encouraged by the wonderful Tod Booth!

- It would be criminal for a city of over a million people to not have a professional theatre. Thoughts and prayers are with all the Booth family.

- We have to find a way to reopen the Alhambra. For the last two summers, it has been like a second home for my girls while they performed. Our entire family loves the Alhambra and everyone we have met!
