Stephen Gately, one fifth of boyband Boyzone, nine years ago had to publically announce that he was Gay. This was due to someone, who should have been reliable & a confident was going to go to the press about it.
This was something that was totally personal to Stephen & he shouldnt have had to fear his personal life being made public.
As fans, back then & now, it didnt bother us one bit. We love Stephen for who he is.
In the Boyz latest video Stephen is filmed with another man, where as the rest of the band are with women. The was a huge step for them & the pop industry. We think it is a beautiful video & it is only right for Stephen to be partnered with a male. It would have been totally false for him to have been with a woman.
This week (21/11/08) a minister from Northern Ireland went to the press with this article:
And according to Northern Ireland newspaper, the Dromore Leader, an Irish minister has now slammed the clip - claiming it sends a "deadly message to young people."
Reverend David MCCullough, minister of Dromore Reformed Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland, tells the publication, "This video, that will be watched by millions, is sending out a deadly message to young people.
"It is stating that homosexuality is simply another norm. The video very cleverly interweaves softly lighted, black and white images of heterosexual couples with a homosexual couple.
"The message is plain and the often repeated drum beating of the homosexual lobby that says that homosexuality is a normal lifestyle."
Everyone is entitled the their opinion but I totally disagree with some of what has been said here.
Please sign this petition in support of Stephen & the decision that Boyzone & their record company took on this.dont be afraid to say what religion, race or your beliefs are.

- I feel no need to justify signing this petition. I do feel it is utterly disgusting that this petition has had to be started in the first place. I also disagree with the contention that eveyone is entitled to their own opinion. Homophobia is not an opinion and to allow it in this blatant form must be stopped. Reverend McCullough (whoever he is) 's words have the potential to do a lot of damage to young people struggling with their sexuality and the interview should never have been given any publicity in the first place.

- This is the most emotional video of BZ that I've ever seen. I love this one. We all know (as BZ-Fans) that Stephen is gay. This emotions should be honest. If Stephen had acted with a woman than it would be strange and we all would know this is wrong (for him) I think this is the right time that he show us that he is honest to himself. I love him! - This video carries a powerful message of equality. How can that be negative? The more exposure young people get to different types of relationships in the media the more likely it is that society will become more tolerant. I find it extremely sad when fellow Christians criticise others for falling short of their socially conservative values whilst failing to acknowledge the relevance of the wider Christian message of tolerance and love for one's neighbours. Jesus himself befriended sinners, so even if you believe that homosexual relationships are inherently sinful, who are you to condemn and criticise others? Have you forgotten St Paul's message in Romans 3:23 and Jesus's message in John 8:7?

- I totally support BZ on this video. We the fans know that Stephen Gately is gay. Why should he not be able to appear in the video with a male. - I believe that you are gay because you are born that way. Therefore being gay is not something you CHOOSE TO BE it is the person you ARE. Stephen was not 'sending out a deadly message to young people' he was simply being himself, something which - due to small mindedness - he has only been able to do for the last 9 years. Its not like he is trying to 'turn' impressionable young teenagers, because if these teenagers are gay its because they were born gay, not because of something they have seen in a pop-video. I'm glad Stephen now feels comfortable enough to be himself. Shouldnt David McCullough, as a member of the church, be full of 'love for one another' not slander??

- Reverent David McCullough has angered me to the core! The Boyzone video is beautiful, not seedy or dirty. I can only support Boyzone and of course Stephen 100\% for this. Stephen is just being himself and quite rightly so, it wouldn't of been right him playing alongside a female, it's not natural for him! I'm absolutely ashamed and disgusted that in todays society, a human being and so called man of the cloth, can class gay people "not normal"! Step out of the dark ages this is 2008, not 1898!
