We the undersigned consumers and business owners hereby petition the Better Business Bureau, interested politicians, and government officials to take the following course of action to rectify what we believe to be a travesty with great economic costs.

We believe the following statements to be true:

1. The Better Business Bureau current grading system is inaccurate, biased, and faulty which has caused legitimate, well run, consumer friendly businesses to suffer greatly from bad grades given to them by the Better Business Bureau.

2. The Better Business Bureau current grading system has not done the due diligence necessary to guarantee accurate results about non-member businesses for which it has given grades.

3. The Better Business Bureau has no mechanism in place for a non-member business to seek independent arbitration for what they deem to be an unfair grade. In other words, the Better Business Bureau refuses to subject itself to the very process that they require businesses to participate in if they wish to be members.

4. There is no standardization between regional offices of the Better Business Bureaus when it comes to grading or sales tactics. There is no appearance of oversight of these regional BBB offices by the national Council of Better Business Bureaus.

In view of these statements which we believe reflect the truth, we hereby request the Council of Better Business Bureaus take the following course of action to better serve the consumers it has sworn to protect and the businesses it seeks to represent, and make right the damage it has caused to businesses that have been disparaged by incorrect grades from various regional BBB offices.

1. Until such time as the Better Business Bureau can demonstrate that they have done the countless hours of research necessary to grade any business in their database, the BBB must be required to remove all grades assigned to non-member businesses.

2. Prior to re-instituting said grading system, the BBB must have a system in place to allow businesses and consumers to file complaints about a regional BBB. These complaints must go directly to the National Council of Better Business Bureaus to oversee, and if necessary arbitrate. If the Council of Better Business Bureaus declines to establish such a national oversight process, then we request legislation from the United States Congress to require the BBB to subject itself to such a national oversight process from whom-so-ever Congress decides.

    • The Better Bussiness Bureau gives false A+ rating to a scam company that puts unauthorized, fraudulent charges on consumers' debit/credit card accounts for years because it pays the membership fee. Other scam companies of the same nature are given F's for not being a registered member of the BBB.

    • the BBB is a JOKE! As is JP Marketing who does quite a bit of the accreditation work in satelite offices. They forge ins policy numbers, meaning if a co doesnt have ins they use fake ones, they change ratings if you pay and fill out the profile, the more infor you share the higher your rating, 75\% of the BOSS and partner and S&S Marketing employees AKA sister cos of JP, use fake names, they are all frauds. They only want the money. Just last month they all including Steve Cox spent a week in Hawaii and 4 days in Vegas, they drive $60,000 plus cars, live it up in big houses, hosted a gathering and paid $300 a night to stay in the Palm Beach Marriot for the employees and provided all their food for 2 days, open bar tabs etc to teach employees to lie their way to the money, all on business owners monies who trusted in them that they were "invited" when really they were just another name in the phone book! They are all frauds! SHUT THEM DOWN! And yes I have proof in black and white!!

    • I'm tired of the BBB sending me requests for my small business information in the mail. I find their practices less than stellar, after reviewing their ratings of 2 local businesses with numerous lawsuits/judgements against them. The BBB gave them an A. I have a suggestion for the BBB-you pay us for our information. Until them take a hike! Just who do they think they are and where do we "grade" them?

    • I have been following closely these complaints with much interest. For three years now I have filed many written complaints against primarily Chris Coleman, the so called President/CEO of the Better Business Bureau in Des Moines Iowa for a period of nearly three years regarding a variety of issues, but numerous ones that relate to much of what your story covers.

    • I am the corporate office manager for a company with an unjustified 'F' rating with the BBB. Although numerous and extraneous attempts have been made (including but not limited to attempting to sue the LA BBB) it seems as if they have only one allegiance- not to the consumers, not to business owners, but to none else but money. I hope this is a beginning to our government helping us to shut down this fraudulent and unjust company.
