We, the undersigned wish to make a plea. As devoted fans of Minidisc technology, we would like to see the Minidisc become the standard for audio recording and reproduction. It's convenient size, reusability and superb quality make it the ideal media for our listening pleasures. It is with this in mind that we hereby ask you to reintroduce not only the media itself but also they players and recorders which we so love.

Now that new Minidisc equipment is no longer widely available, we are forced to try to find second-hand players and recorders which, due to the high build quality are still for the most part valid but are becoming more difficult to source. As time goes by, they will eventually start suffer degradation and eventually total failure. As such, we ask that Sony please reintroduce the Minidisc and it's associated equipment, at a cost which will be affordable to the home user.

    • I love and will continue to love MD. I hate ipods and i don't download. I have 3 drawers of mds. I own a homedeck unit, portable unit and a car with a MD reciever. I refuse to give in to today's MP3 or Ipod tech. I love Mds with passion and it makes me mad that the brand i trust is going to give up, because they are cowards and didn't promote the format better. I would have love to see VMDs that movies would be on and record things on. 2 hours of blu ray quality on both sides of a video mini disc. It's a shame. TSK TSK Sony. Long live the MD, want to see Sony embrace it stronger and better, even with commercials against Ipods.

    • So far, MiniDisc walkmans have been the best sounding/best recording portable equipment ever made. As a result of Sony's decision to cease production, recently I bought 40 HiMD blanks, 60 standard 80 mins blanks, four LIP-4WM and seven NH-14WM batteries. I would be extremely grateful to Sony if they could reconsider their decision.

    • As a classical musician, the recording sound quality with my tiny Sony condenser mike is unmatched. I do hope that this technology is not lost and would love to be kept informed about future plans in this area.

    • I have used MiniDisc since late 1992, and use it daily for work and recreation. Sony did a very poor job of marketing here in the USA, and since then has really not seemed to care about MiniDisc as a viable format. This is a real shame because the sound quality is VASTLY SUPERIOR to Apple's iPods and with MD, I can record with superb quality and finally, with HiMD, with no compression. I think Sony will only listen to a tremendous groundswell of consumer MD users. We should ALL support this petition. Sony, PLEASE reconsider. MD has been a great success in Japan and other Asian countries, and it could still be here in the US, if and only if Sony rethinks their marketing and reintroduces MD with the necessary support which has always before been lacking. MD is light years ahead of cassette in every category, and by now, deserves to be the number 1 audio format worldwide. Make it happen Sony! It is not too late.
