The members of ATU Local 741 and the London Transit Commission failed to reach a contract agreement. The Amalgamated Transit Union has set a strike date of November 16, 2009.

The LTC services 32 routes (19 accessible) with annual ridership of 22 million. London provides one of the only forms of transportation available to Fanshawe College and University of Western Ontario students, as well to many individuals on Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program Income Support. Many other low income families depend on the transit as their only affordable means of transportation.

This impending strike leaves many without the ability to go to work, go to school, make medical appointments, go to the hospital, take children to school or daycare, or purchase groceries.

The Amalgamated Transit Union has indicated publicly that they would be willing to enter in to BINDING ARBITRATION with the London Transit Commission. The Commission has declined such an offer.

By signing this petition, you are indicating your desire for the London Transit Commission to also enter in to BINDING ARBITRATION IMMEDIATELY and avoid a strike altogether.

By signing you are not in support of the union or the commission. You are in support of a solution. The arbitrator will evaluate the unions position, the company's position and the ability of the company to pay any such awards.

    • The ones being hurt the most are we the public who fund the LTC. Why should we be the ones suffering?? Transit is an essential service that many people of all walks of life rely on. Don't take this essential service away.
