Baktiar Kadir, 34, has lived in the East Kent area for the past 8 years and his whole sense of purpose, meaning in life and identity is embedded in his life here in Dover. However, last Thursday (15th May), Baktiar attended Immigration at Folkestone to sign in as he usually does every month, and was then informed that he would be detained with the aim of removing him from the country back to Northern Iraq - Kurdistan. He is currently detained in the Dover Removal Centre.

During the past 8 years, Baktiar has complied rigorously with all regulations placed upon him by Immigration. He has signed in every month, remained entirely transparent about his whereabouts and his activities, after being given permission to work has been employed continuously whilst paying tax and national insurance just like any citizen, has not once broken the law and has lived his life in a moral and respectable way. Baktiar has embraced the English culture and has become a very popular and much loved member of the Dover community. Baktiar has a very sincere and kind heart and this is demonstrated by the wide and far reaching circle of friends that he has touched the lives of and also by the work he has committed himself to by working for Migrant Helpline and assisting others who are in a very similar unfortunate position to himself.

He has been the model citizen without citizenship and has been the ultimate opposite of what the media stereotypes asylum seekers to be. Baktiars entire family have been murdered and so he is being forced to return to no-one and nothing but excruciating memories and also the constant fear of being persecuted by the oppressive government he once rebelled against. He genuinely feels that he would rather end his life than be returned to his country.

This petition asks for the immediate release of Baktiar from detainment and for the Home Office to allow Baktiar to stay in this country.

    • Me and baki have got along very well the couple of times i have meet him, he has been very welcoming towards me whenever i have stayed at his house in dover, as i am close freinds with both his wife alexis and his daughter sofia, he makes everybody he meets fell like they are part of his family. i do not fell as it would be right for him to be deported back to iraq because he has so many freinds and and also people that both they and he see each other as family.

    • Baktiar has integrated British society so well, and has never sought to remain at large of its culture, but instead has engaged with it whole heartidly while all the same time, offering insights into his own culture which has made every meeting with him enriching. The "migration helpline" he has dedicated his time to only reflects his interpersonal skills, his intergration into his host society and his genuine care to help others. I find it difficult to perceive that such an individual as Baktiar would be detained, with the intention of being deported, after having served his host country so well. I believed England still thought of family as a worthy enough value to uphold, but I hope I will not be proved wrong. Would you please reconsider Baktiar's case, and ponder the weight of such a decision, on his own life, his family's, his friends', and the people he has touched through his job.

    • Since he has been living in the U.K he has contributed a huge amount to our society. He has used his skills to work for the benefit of others at Migrant Helpline and has regularly paid taxes. It would be an injustice not to allow him to stay.

    • It a degrace that Barkthyar will be deported to his country after all these years he's contributed in the UK. The killers, thieves ect they let them free but the genuine people get sent back what a country and world we live in. There is no humanity & decency in this world anymore it a shame!
