Homeowners of the Brackenwood Community in Rockledge, FL continue to experience an unpleasant pungent odor of rubber and nuisance dust in the form of a brown particulate matter accumulating on property adjacent to the Liberty Tire Recycling facility, located at 270 Barnes Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955. We believe that the odor and nuisance dust are a direct result of the tire recycling facility's daily operations. Although numerous complaints have been logged with the City of Rockledge Code Enforcement division and the EPA of Central Florida nuisance emissions still continue. We demand that the City of Rockledge and the EPA of Central Florida conduct a more thorough investigation and adapt a comprehensive solution to eliminate the odors and nuisance dust emissions defined in City Oridinance Article II, section 10-18 as it pertains to "accumulations constituting a nuisance" and F.A.C Chapter 62-204 Air Polution Control, as well as the "General Provisions Chapter 62-297 Stationary Sources - Emissions Monitoring subsection 62-297.310 General Compliance Test Requirements.

    • We have just placed gutters on our house and notice all the black soot. We have just finished our pool area and are finding soot on the screen, in the pool and on the patio. I have called the EPA and left messages and no one has returned my calls. I have also noticed large chunks of rubber on Barnes Blvd going towards Murrell Blvd. The dust make me cough when working out side. Also, if the piles of tires catch on fire the people in our subdivision will have a toxic disaster and then will the city and the EPA act!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • This tire fine dust (made from petroleum) leave an oil look residue on the swimming pool water and on our lake. I planning to contact the state DEP as well as St. John River & water Mag. for their input in this un-healthy material.

    • I agree with what the others wrote in their posts. Placing a business such as the one in question is something that should have been thought out before zoning Brackenwood as a residential area. We did not pay good money to have our property devalued and look dirty due to the plant being next door. I can't even enjoy walking my dogs at night for the fear of all that rubber dust and such getting in my lungs.

    • When I purchased my home 1 year ago, it was meant an investment as an oasis. Unfortunately, I fear my investment is being negavitely impacted by the pollutants from the tire plant. My 2 most expensive assets, my home and my car have a dusting of a petroleum based powder. My pool is contanminated with the oily residue which is damaing the pump. This business is affecting the assets and potenically the health of the residents of Brackenwood.

    • Ever since this business located next door to us we have experienced bad dust accumulation in our shop both indoor and outdoor. I have called the EPA with no results. Not only is this a nuisance and damaging to my business but I am worried about the health consequences of breathing this stuff. Liberty Tire has assured me that they were putting in new dust collectors but this has been going on too long with no action. This type of business should be located somewhere else or somehow clean up their act.

    • It is clear to all of the residents of our development that this rubber recycling plant poses an extreme health hazard. It's emissions coat everything - pools, automobiles, homes, air conditioning units with a fine, powdery, petrochemical based residue byproduct of their manufacturing. The plant should not be located anywhere near a residentially zoned neighborhood. Our air conditioning unit recently stopped functioning on a 95 degree day. The HVAC technician explained that the outside air conditioning compressor was clogged with this residue. This is outrageous.

    • When I purchased my house the factory was just setting up and I never noticed the tire dust and smell. Over the last 2 years my family which includes a 1 year old cannot even sit outside during the peak of day as the smell is toxic to our lungs. I had to park my white car outside the garage for one week which at the end it was ENTIRELY covered with black dust. I fear for my one year old getting older and playing outside as he will be breathing in toxic tire into his lungs which I know will be critical to his health in his future. As a first time home buyer I thought this was my dream home only to realize that any future profit I might earn from this house is gone for as long as the smell and dust continues to overwhelm the air. Please help us while our young children are growing breathing in this dirty air.
