Dear President Obama,
We have become aware that Mary Beth Buchanan is insisting that she be retained as United States Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, despite the fact that she was/is a Bush appointee.
On election day we as a nation called for change. We still hold faith that you are working hard to bring about that change so we beseech you to replace Mary Beth Buchanan with a more appropriate Attorney that will seek to prosecute based on logic, justice and the law rather than political gain.
The prosecutions of Tommy Chong, The deportation of Daniel Zehr, and the attempted prosecution of Dr. Cyril H. Wecht aside Ms. Buchanan is also implicated in the firing of US District Attorneys for political reasons.
In April 2007, Kyle Sampson, the former Gonzales aide, raised Ms. Buchanan's name to judiciary committee investigators during his April testimony. Mr. Sampson said that Ms. Buchanan was among the DOJ officials he consulted about which of the U.S. attorneys should be asked to resign.
In May 2007, Monica Goodling told committee members that she knew Ms. Buchanan had discussed the firings with Mr. Sampson. Before Ms. Goodling joined the White House, Ms. Goodling was hired by Ms. Buchanan to work in the executive office.
Mary Beth Buchanan has shown herself time and again to be motivated by politics rather than justice and we feel she must be replaced as soon as possible.
