As of 1st January 2010 the Irish government brought into force a new blasphemy law, punishable by a fine of up to 25,000 euro.
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern justified this irrational action by arguing that while immigration has brought a growing diversity of religious faiths to Ireland, the 1936 constitution extended the protection of beliefs only to Christians. (Guardian Online)
This new blasphemy law goes against our civil rights and denies us the gift of freedom of speech. Let's make a stand now and show our support for a secular, modern and equal republic.

- Given the past history of the Catholic church in regards to the predatory paedophiles within, surely consideration towards banning forever the church from Irelands` shores, should be of more importance."`Twas ever an abomination, the practice of religion." ;) After all, Ireland was here billions of years before any of the prophets.

- It is blasphemy against all other gods and religions for the imagined Catholic god to state as in text that he is the only true god and all other gods and religions are false (see First Commandment). It is also universally and vindictively blasphamous for all Catholics to so affirm in text or verbally. For this law to be justly applied, all Catholics should be justly criminalized and fined on a daily basis until such ideas are strickenned from all texts and verbal statements, unless it can substantiated as absolute truth. I believe this god of Catholics is an imaginary evil, for this fantasy of his supremacy has instigated the slaughter humanity for no good reason but the unsubstantiated and devious claim of "salvation" and "afterlife" through the empowerment of a political and coersive Roman Catholic Church. It is my opinion that all Christians, Muslims and Jews should be criminalized for promoting, supporting or upholding the butchery of humanity in the name of such evil deities.

- Thank you for starting this petition. Blasphemy is a victimless crime, and has no place in a modern secular republic.

- They should have had a referendum to remove references to blasphemy from the constitution instead of implementing this ridiculous law from the dark ages.
