With the decommissioning of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) due within the next ten years; we, fans of the television series and science fiction phenomenon known throughout the world as Star Trek, here-by petition the United States Department of Defense, and the United States Department of the Navy, that a Gerald R. Ford Class Naval Carrier, be named the U.S.S. Enterprise in honor of all ships past and future; and that it carry the honorary ship designation of CVN-1701.
