Petition statement:
The Conrad Weiser Area School Board is currently drafting the 2009-2010 budget. Due to an income shortfall of $1,010,810.00, the school board is proposing two strategies:
Budget cuts that will reduce programs and services -directly affecting the students that attend the Conrad Weiser Area School District
No budget cuts, with a tax increase of up to 1.9 mills (approximately $100.00/year per household increase)
The current budget cuts that are being proposed include the following:
Transportation $50,000
Facilities Replacement $30,000
Facilities Repairs and Maintenance $20,000
Athletic Cuts (transportation for cheering) $5,500
Athletic Cuts (coaching raises) $16,000
Athletic Cuts (uniforms) $10,000
Conferences $63,320
3 Elementary teacher positions $195,000
High School English $65,000
Middle School teacher $65,000
Secondary Assistant Principal $100,000
Co-op Program $11,300
Technology Purchases $50,000
Renaissance $12,000
Strength and Conditioning Coach $32,000
Field Trips $25,000
Need Camp $28,070
In the long run, budget cuts will negatively impact the students.
Other methods can be used to help lower the budget deficit and generate funds that will not include cutting programs and services such as charging activity fees, charging a nominal fee for field trips, fundraisers, sports participation fee, etc.
Next school board meeting regarding this issue is May 18th at 7:00 pm at the high school library.

- school taxes are too high!!!!!!We don't have after school busing, a pool or an orchestra. How dare the idea be considered to cut back ,we need an increase! And not from the tax payers!

- Why can't the staff at CW take a pay cut like many other American tax payer has endured in this tuff time, why does it always have to be taken out on the children of OUR furture. If you care about the children that you teach lets set an example for them letting them know this and find a better way then cheating them out of the best education possible!!!

- I have one child that graduated and one in 10th grade and I can only say that these cuts would be a total detriment the kids. The NEED camp is something that both my kids enjoyed and brought them together with their classmates. To cut teacher jobs is just ridiculous -- you are totally affecting the kids - the classes now are large enough and to cut teaching jobs is just crazy. As for athetic cuts -- I remember buying my son's baseball hat and balls for the team -- so I find it hard to believe that a lot of budgeting money goes into sports. To take this away -- you are going to put many more kids on the streets because they are gonig to be unable to afford to do sports. I find it amazing with the tax money I have paid for over 23 years in this district that we are so far behind -- maybe since other people are taking pay cuts you might want to think of that as an option - to help alleviate this deficit.

- No... There is always a way to work issues out and not by punishing the kids or the taxpayers.
