Reinstate Royal Mail Strikes

"We believe that the CWU postal executive committee was wrong to call off strike action against Royal Mail on the basis of the 'Interim Agreement'. This agreement gains some concessions from Royal Mail but not nearly enough. It offers talks but who can trust Royal Mail management to act fairly? We believe that ending the strikes risks throwing away the pressure built up during weeks of local and regional strikes, and during the national strikes. Royal Mail will try to string out talks until January and then attack again when the level of mail posted is lower. Royal Mail has already shown that in the great majority of cases it is not going to withdraw executive action, end excessive workload, end impossible walks, reverse disciplinary action, and sack bullying managers. We call for the strikes to be reinstated as soon as possible. We urge CWU members to sign this petition and to give their union positions (if any). We recognise that many workers may fear disciplinary action, so we accept that people may wish to use their first names only, or pseudonyms on this petition."

    • We know Royal Mail plans to return to imposing change in January. They are still saying that there will be no going back on changes already imposed. The Interim Agreement is a sham to get past Christmas.

    • We are suffering possibly the worst public debt we have ever known, and the cuts to our services we are facing as a result could be catastrophic. The government is passing on the debt of bankers to ordinary workers and the most vulnerbale will suffer most. To do so, however, they will have to take on the organised trade unions. That is why this fight affects us all: if they smash up the post, it will be carte blanche to attack all public services next. The strikes brought together the union and showed how we can resist these cuts. We must not take the presure off Royal Mail bosses now!
