Hockey Nightmare!

After 40 years, Hockey Night in Canada has decided it might be time to go in a different direction, and stop using the theme 'Hockey Night in Canada' for their weekly broadcasts. Citing a steep cost of $500 per game, the network has decided to go in a different direction. What is this a relationship? Are we breaking up? This song is as big a part of our culture as Beaver Tails and Long Johns!

Guess what? We're not going to take it! We need to keep this song and draw the attention of CBC to show how important we all feel this is. Sign this petition and tell us what the "Hockey Night" song means to you, and we'll make sure to get these in the hands of the right people.

- Hey! Who's making decisions?? Certainly not a hockey fan at the station!! Not only is there nostalga attached to it, but there's something about watching hockey that just makes everything seem right in the world when that theme song comes on - it ups the whole hockey experience. You can watch hockey on all sorts of other stations, but there's a feeling of being "home' cheering for your team when Hockey Night in Canada theme comes on.... its the don't bug me ... i'm watching hockey on Saturday night... Leave the song in place so another generation has that connection to our shared history. Its a gel that holds grandpa's, fathers, and sons together (ok and women too...)

- Why doesn't the CBC/Canadian government (proper) buy the rights to the song permanently? Do that and be done with it. Let the artist make some more money out of it while they are still able to enjoy the benefits of giving a "treasure" to Canada for all to enjoy. Otherwise, the artist gets nothing and we lose it until the next owners sell/lease out the rights to the song. By then the song will probably be obscure and not so well received. By the way, didn't the Canadian taxpayers pay of over a million dollars to commission an artist to create a sculpture of the number "7" at an Ottawa gallery. Talk about being "out of step" with the Canadian public. I may be the only a one of a small group of people to remember that "thing" ... and "no' I haven't seen it in person. If they spent money to buy it, it would not be considered a total squandering of taxpayer money. The song is part of Canada's tapestry - keep it that way. I wonder where that "7" thing is? Da-da-da Da Da-nah! .....
