When I was growing up in Fort Worth, Texas I remember as a kid and even more as a teen listening to the Dr. Demento radio show on Sunday nights. Ah, from the sweet sounds of "Weird Al" Yankovic's accordion to The Frantics giving me a "Boot to the Head", Dr. Demento's call to "WWWWWWWind up" my radio was something I looked forward to before having to start my school week up again.
The school week has given way to the work week for me and it still stinks! But I haven't heard Dr. Demento ON MY RADIO in perhaps two decades! The only way that we here in the supposedly great, diverse, wanna-be hub of entertainment Dallas/Fort Worth area can hear the Dr. Demento show is by streaming it online for $2 per show at a low bitrate. I would RATHER hear all the glorious funny dementia in sparkling stereo sound on my old faithful RADIO!
Dementia is still alive and well, with new artists like The Great Luke Ski, Sudden Death, Pink Steel, Worm Quartet, Possible Oscar, Seamonkey and SO MANY MORE and with still new and old offerings from "Weird Al" and our favorite demented artists!
PLEASE sign this petition to BRING BACK DR. DEMENTO TO THE AIRWAVES OF NORTH TEXAS!!! I will be pitching this to many local radio stations once we get plenty of signatures, so please sign and have your friends and family sign!!
Here's our petition statement:
"We want Dr. Demento's weekly radio show BACK on the airwaves of North Texas! It has been gone too long and in a world of media that so often underscores the perils and tradgedies we face... we want to take time to smile, laugh out loud and remember that the world is also wacky and fun! We pledge to 'Wind up our radios' and tune in while the Dr. is in!"

- The problem with kids today isn't video games, gangsta rap, or Paris Hilton... it's the lack of Demento in our lives. I listened to the good Doctor in my youth, and I turned out to be a fine, upstanding citizen. It's your civic duty, North Texas Radio Station Program Director, to restore the karmic balance.
