Monocacy Montessori Communities, Incorporated (MMCI) is the non-profit organization that holds the charter for Monocacy Valley Montessori Public Charter School (MVMPCS). MMCI is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, tax-exempt membership corporation.
MMCI is supporting the application for a second public charter school in Frederick county, which would be called EACH! (Educational Alternative Communities Happen!). The new charter school would be for girls only, grades 7 through 12 with a college preparatory curriculum that emphasizes critical needs foreign languages (Russian, Chinese, or Arabic). The proposal for the charter school states that it would open up with grades 7-10 in Aug. 2009, adding 11th grade in Aug. 2010 and 12th grade in Aug. 2011.
A key question related to the approval process is How much demand is there in the community for a school like the EACH! School? To demonstrate the level of interest there is in the community, MMCI is asking anyone who lives in Frederick county Maryland and wants to have the choice of a school like EACH! for their daughter to please sign this on-line petition. Please sign once for each prospective student, including the current grade level for each. By signing this petition, you are not committed to anything.
If the school is approved by the Board of Education for Frederick County Public Schools, then the actual registration process for the academic year 2009-10 will begin on January 1, 2009 and continue until March 31, 2009. If the number of registrations exceeds the number of openings in any grade (after preference has been given to the children of founders), a lottery will be held to select students and establish the order of the waiting list.
(The current charter school, MVMPCS, has 270 students enrolled and has over 150 names on the waiting list.)

- I totally support this and hope it succeeds. I would love for FCPS to implement single sex ed, boys and girls, throughout their system. What a tremendous benefit this would be to our children. Best of luck to EACH!
