We the undersigned oppose eliminating the Ethan Allen Amtrak train and
oppose replacing it with a bus. We understand the budget pressures created
by the drop in driving and gas tax revenue, but do not think cutting the
train when it is growing 17\% in popularity is the solution. We believe the
Ethan Allen is an important economic asset for western Vermont. We believe
that this cut threatens the mobility of all Vermonters. We believe
strengthening Vermont's rail network offers more financial benefits than
this cut and suggest extending the Ethan Allen to Burlington. Thank you for your service and for finding an alternate solution."

    • I visit Vermont fairly regularly and view Vermont's Amtrak service as a very useful travel tool. Not having Amtrak service to Rutland would hamper my ability and desire to visit Vermont.

    • Trains are fuel-efficient and very popular in Vermont. Elimination of passenger train service would be regressive, especially for travellers in these economic times.

    • Cut some road funding instead of Amtrak - people want rail transit. Here in PA. the keystone corridor continues to grow in spite of the recession.

    • I am a frequent rail traveler with reason to travel to Vermont for family, business and vacation. The loss of this resource would inhibit if not preclude my visitation of Vermont, and it is counter-productive in light of the nation's need for a connected national rail network.

    • Since 2004, on days I have walked through NY Penn Station to take my commuter train home, I always hear an announcement at around 5:30 p.m. that the Ethan Allen Express to Rutland Vermont has been sold out. This is a service with lots of potential from NYC to central Vermont (an ideal schedule northbound on Fridays and southbound on Sunday) and could benefit further by continued service north to downtown Middlebury, Shelbourne, Vergennes, and Burlington to name a few cities/towns this train could serve. Vermont needs this train to preserve its tourism industry and assist with the transportation needs of the people of Vermont
