ABCS CENSORSHIP OF ADAM LAMBERTS PERFORMANCE AT THE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS (AMA) ILLUSTRATES A DISCRIMINATORY DOUBLE STANDARD APPLIED TO GAY MEN.

ABC SAYS IT GOT ONLY 1,500 COMPLAINTS FROM A TOTAL OF 14 MILLION AMA VIEWERS BUT THE STORY IN THE MAINSTREAM PRESS IS HUGE AND LAMBERT IS NOT BEING TREATED FAIRLY. LETS SUPPORT FREEDOM OF ARTISTIC AND SEXUAL EXPRESSION BY SENDING A CLEAR MESSAGE: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Adam Lambert is among the first openly gay US recording artists to earn such a huge profile at the very outset of his career. His recent AMA performance featured some crotch nuzzling and a man-on-man kiss.

ABC censored the kiss during the broadcast by quickly cutting away to a wide shot and subsequently edited the crotch nuzzling completely out of the east coast broadcast. Lamberts appearance on ABCs Good Morning America, scheduled for the following morning, was cancelled.

Countless music videos and performances by female pop stars and scores of straight hip-hoppers and rockers dont seem to faze ABC or the viewing public. And freedom of artistic and sexual expression is good and healthy.

Id like to send a message to ABC and to Lamberts critics. Lets flood ABCs website with notes of protest for censoring Lambert.

Lets show the mainstream press and ABC what audiences really think of those who censor gay imagery. Lets pressure the mainstream media to cover this as a story about censorship rather than one about Lamberts choices.

Censoring Adam Lamberts performance at the AMA was condescending to audiences and to Lambert. Treating gay sexuality differently from straight sexuality is simply homophobic and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

You have many more than 1,500 gay viewers who are inspired by Lambert and his work. Yet you cave to a tiny minority of bellyachers who cant possibly have been injured by Lamberts performance.

Will you issue a public apology to Lambert and to your gay viewers? Its the least you could do.

    • as a mum of gay man Adam's actions were not offensive to me, nor should they be to anyone who believes in equality. Equal means equal! Anything less is wrong, and in this case smacks of homophobia, which does offend me.

    • Adam is a young man who embodies many of the qualities that we as people should look up to: humility, graciousness, and an acceptance and respect for diversity. He is a man who believes his way is right for him yet finds beauty and value in everyone finding that for themselves. He is an inspiration to countless kids who dont fit in. THAT is more important than 1 performance of 1 song. The reactionary response to his performance is wrong. He has been singled out for very public punishment, and that's wrong. Shame on you, ABC!
