As a tax-paying Torontonian, I am fed up with the City's unionized workers that are currently on strike.

I feel that their demands are unreasonable.
I feel that their calls for 'fairness' are hypocritical, in light of their being able to hold the city hostage over their own demands.
I feel that their contract should properly reflect the average worker's conditions (not just unionized workers) in this current economic climate.

I feel that the offer the City of Toronto made public to the Unions on July the 11th, 2009 was generous, in light of the current economic climate, and no further concessions should be made.

As a resident living in Toronto and paying taxes to the City of Toronto, I am authorizing our Mayor to put forth the following ultimatum to the striking unions. Starting with the offer posted on July the 11th, 2009, an agreement can be signed by the Unions if they agree to these terms no later than July 17th, at 11:59PM.

Should they not agree to this contract, I further authorize the terms of the offer to be reduced in the following manner:

- If agreed upon between 12:00am July 18th, and 11:59pm July 21st, pay raises are to be set at 1\%, 1\%, 1\%, 2\%, respectively, in the first four years and all other terms remain unchanged as provided for in the offer.

- If agreed upon between 12:00am July 22nd, and 11:59pm July 25th, pay raises are to be set at 0\%, 1\%, 1\%, 1\%, respectively, in the first four years and all other terms remain unchanged as provided for in the offer.

- If agreed upon between 12:00am July 25th, and 11:59pm July 28th, pay raises are to be set at 0\%, 0\%, 0\%, 1\%, respectively, in the first four years and all other terms remain unchanged as provided for in the offer.

- If agreed upon July 29th or later, replace ALL workers who continue to maintain a strike position. Workers who agree to come back to work at this time may have their contract reflect the terms of the offer accordingly with the time they chose to return to work.

As a resident of Toronto, I fully understand the implications of having to replace all striking workers, but I am willing to accept several months of severely reduced service during necessary training for new staff, as well as any residual compensation due to workers who are replaced as per the terms of any prior contract.

    • This strike should have ended weeks ago. The bottom line is that we have a Mayor and city council who are pro-union and dont give a DAMN about the taxpayers of Toronto. People have lost their jobs due to not being able 2 work, due to lack of childcare. CUPE workers harass the public and NOTHING is done because u are an NPD lapdog
