Dear Governor Patrick,
This petition is to express our support to have $2 million from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Environmental Bond Bill (H.4446) allocated toward capital improvements in DCR's Foss Park of Somerville.
We also agree that the top priority with these funds should be to restore the current dirt field into a multi-sport FieldTurf athletic surface, which would have the greatest benefit for the entire community.

- I would also like to see more Tennis Courts added with lights for evening play + better access to the courts. Right now you have to trek through the mud & bugs, past the ongoing soccer matches carrying all your gear & balls to get to the 2 courts that are barely ever used because they are so inconvenient. Put in a min. 4-6 courts and make them have easy access to parking areas. You could even hold USTA Tennis Lessons in the summer months there with these upgrades.

- I grew up in Somerville and Foss Park was always a great place to swim, picnic on the grass and play ball with friends. I would love to see money spent to provide a safe sports and social environment for the community.

- One thing Foss Park really needs: an opening in the east fence, so that people can walk out of the park, across Route 28, to Stop & Shop. This would cost almost nothing and would add a lot of cut- through pedestrian traffic to the park, making it safer and giving the park a new constituency of users.
