We, the undersigned, oppose the Golden Gate National Recreation Area's (GGNRA) Draft Dog Management Plan. The plan proposes to either eliminate or severely limit dog-walking access in 21 locations in Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties - including traditional off-leash areas like Crissy Field, Fort Funston, Marin Headlands, Mori Point, Muir Beach, Ocean Beach, and Rodeo Beach.
The GGNRA is located in a major urban area with minimal open space, so these restrictions will have a dramatic impact. We believe an acceptable dog management plan must take into consideration the impacts of the proposed plan on neighboring city parks, on the health and well-being of people who enjoy recreational dog walking, and must respect the recreational values that are part of the GGNRAs original mission (to provide for the maintenance of needed recreational open space), which this plan fails to do.

- To be consistent with the enabling legislation, I believe the original 1979 Pet Policy with provisions for the maintenance of historical recreation for properties added after 1979 should be codified as a Section 7 Special Regulation.

- What does the park system have against man's best friend? My advice: never get between a person and their love for their dog.

- There are no compelling reasons to alter existing practice. Keep access status quo.

- The GGNRA proposed plan is unbalanced and unfair. It does not present scientific data that supports the claims that dogs are damaging the environment and it does not consider what will happen to other areas if this plan is enacted. Please do not support this proposal.

- I've been walking my dogs in Montara off leash for 31 years with never a single problem. We all clean up after our dogs around here. I would be forced to walk on Highway 1 or other busy roads if I couldn't walk my dog in the hills around Montara.
