We, the peace grandmothers of the United States, who have the greatest hopes and admiration for you, and who supported you so enthusiastically in your campaign, would like to acquaint you with our anti-war concerns.
We earnestly hope that you will make decisions to bring peace, sharing as we know you do, our view that "War is not the answer." We hope very much that you will bring all the troops home from Iraq immediately and reconsider your decision to redeploy them in Afghanistan. Please use diplomacy as your tool for ending conflicts rather than military might.

- Little by little, all hope we had for the country on Nov. 4 is vanishing. I'm not a granny, but they couldn't be more right!

- Do not get bogged down in Afghanistan! It will be known as Obama's War as Iraq is known as Bush's War.

- I am a grandmother. Let us enact HR 676. Let us make sure everyone in this country has a home and enough to eat. Let us take care of our people instead of sending our children off to kill other people's children.

- Pres Obama should be talking about bringing in the UN to organize diplomatic efforts in the region toward ending the war in Afghanistan as well as Iraq. War is not the answer!

- Nobody wins a war nowadays, especially not in Afghanistan. It is just mutual slaughter until someone grows tired of all the killing. Like Northern Ireland. You at last have the brains to try something different. Every country wants a degree of respect and to be able to stand tall among the lineup of nations, Just like individual people. Maybe when we can find a way to treat nations with respect they won't act like thugs. War is WAY WAY too expensive in personnel and money. We have to find a way to change the mindset in the way we settle differences and problems between nations.

- Your new Secretary of Defense says this war cannot be won militarily. More US troops and bombing will just increase popular support for the Taliban. Please reconsider your idea of sending more troops. Send reconstructiuon aid and work diplomatically in the region to reach a political settlement.

- War is a lose, lose game and a failure of leadership. Ex-President Jimmy Carter knows how to solve conflict without war, talk with him.
