For example, at the San Francisco chapter of YJP, we have discussed the nature of how ghee boli is done in Jain temples, serving as both a religious ritual and as a fundraiser for the temple/Jain centers. We believe that, in line with Jain principles, that gifts should be anonymous. We feel that this ritual has become a glorified way of showing off ones wealth and, in a sense, turned into a competition. While its important that we donate generously to support our Jain centers, we feel as that: All those who donate funds should help perform the rituals (in a lottery basis, maybe pulling names from a bag); and that the size of donations and who gave each donation should not be a matter for public display.

As young Jains, we are the voice of tomorrow. As the voice of tomorrow, we have a responsibility to begin making the changes now, in small steps. Join our voice.
