We note with regret that the BBC has not broadcast the television recordings of Hinge and Bracket for many years.

WE APPLAUD THE COMEDY AND MUSICIANSHIP OF PATRICK FYFFE AND GEORGE LOGAN, CREATORS OF DAME HILDA BRACKET AND DR EVADNE HINGE, valuing their contribution to light entertainment, and commending their work in the fields of character comedy and musical variety.

For thirty years, the comedy of Hinge and Bracket commanded audience affection, celebrating the world of operetta and musical theatre, and combining musical virtuosity with affectionate mockery and mischief. In this, they were original, innovative and unique of their time. Today their contribution to music and light opera continues through Patrick Fyffe's legacy, the DAME HILDA BRACKET TRUST, which supports Sadlers Wells.

We believe that THE HINGE AND BRACKET TELEVISION RECORDINGS, made by the BBC between 1976 and 1985, are an important record of these talented entertainers, and that they BELONG AMONG THE CLASSICS OF BRITISH COMEDY. Therefore it is our sincere request that the BBC, as custodian of this material, should share these recordings with a new generation of viewers by re-broadcasting them. We also hope that the BBC will agree to make a new tribute documentary, to accompany these shows and place them in context.

WE HEREBY PETITION THE BBC TO SUPPORT A REVIVAL OF INTEREST IN HINGE AND BRACKET, A TREASURE OF BRITISH COMEDY, AND TO RUN A "HINGE AND BRACKET SEASON" ON TELEVISION, COMPRISING ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:

The televised Hinge and Bracket concerts (Gala Evenings)
All three series of the situation comedy Dear Ladies (or a best of selection)
A new tribute documentary celebrating the art of Hinge and Bracket, and exploring the ingredients which made this act enjoyable on so many levels
A number of new short television interviews with George Logan to accompany broadcasts of the concerts and episodes of the comedy series.

We would also draw your attention to the approaching 10th ANNIVERSARY OF PATRICK FYFFE'S DEATH on May 11th 2012, and suggest that this occasion offers A SPECIAL REASON FOR ACKNOWLEDGING HINGE AND BRACKET'S CONTRIBUTION TO ENTERTAINMENT, and paying tribute to their work.

Evidence of enduring regard for this classic comedy act can be found at the following links:

    • I appeal to the BBC for a tribute in the very least to a great actor/comedian to be shown on the BBC, and maybe you could also think of possibly showing the TV Series "Dear Ladies" again, as i am sure it will make more people look out for the DVDs you finally released after years of petitioning. Please please please show H&B on TV and also i think that a tribute programme for 11th May 2012 will be fitting tribute to Patrick Fyffe, 10 years after he passed away. Come on Aunty, please do this for us.

    • A most underrated act, with an unequalled combination of comedy and musicality. Patrick Fyffe was an absolutely outstanding performer and merits commemorating at any time - but particularly on the tenth anniversary of his death in 2012

    • While so many of the new generation of comedy writers try in vain to recreate the golden years of the sit com why doesn't the BBC treat us to a re-run of these inspirational greats?

    • George Logan's and Patrick Fyffe's combined genius in Hinge and Bracket gave us a comedy classic ranking amongst the BBC's very best. Their wonderful act probably has even wider appeal now that subtle gay comedy and excellent live repartee are more widely appreciated than when first broadcast. The many levels of humour, wide appeal of the most brilliant and realistic female impersonation, and fantastic musical performance make them an absolute joy that today's wider TV audience (who probably missed the 1980s broadcasts) so deserve to see once again on the BBC! As May 2012 will be the tenth anniversary of Patrick Fyffe's much lamented death, this would be a very appropriate time to screen a tribute programme together with their wonderful Gala Evenings and Dear Ladies in order to entertain BBC audiences once again with Patrick Fyffe's and George Logan's great and unique form of musical comedy.

    • Hinge & Bracket were unique: a class act never bettered. Please, BBC, re-show Dear ladies as a tribute to these two exceptional artists so that a new audience can discover and enjoy their art. It would also be a timely tribute to Patrick Fyffe on the 10th anniversary in 2012 of his passing - never forgotten. always remembered.
