On country radio it seems the older classic country artists have been excluded, despite the fact that many of these artists, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and others are still actively a part of the performing artists of country and still releasing new recordings.
When you listened to Sunday Night Classics you were listening to REAL Classic Country not the watered down stuff!
Radio personality Jimmy Kay along with his producer Jeffery Smart played music straight from the heart, the songs chosen during Sunday Night Classics on KKGO Go Country were those that touched the listeners, whether it be through laughter, historical tales, or fun.
Sunday night classics was a show with a wide audience playing classic country from the '20s, thru the '70s childrens songs, country gospel, bluegrass, Americana, Western Swing, Southern Gospel and more.
The funny songs about taxes, dogs, trains, farm animals ... you name it, they've played it. Many songs everyone loved and some they were hearing for the first time. Jimmy Kay was quick to answer e-mails always taking requests and doing his best to find the music his listeners asked for.
He also introduced his listeners to undiscovered singer-songwriters when he would play his Sunday Night Classics Discoveries.
Many artists have sent in music submissions and Jimmy Kay and Jeffery Smart would listen to EVERY CD sent to them searching for the songs that would be something that would appeal to the large audience of people his show was heard by.
Jimmy Kay shared information about all the songs and artists he played, if you wanted to know the history behind the music he was the go to guy on classic country with a vast knowledge of the music classic country fans love to listen to.
Jimmy Kay once told his listeners, "I loved to sing songs around the campfire every summer when I went to River Way Ranch Camp. I love to play music which reminds people of their childhood memories and to expose them to ideas which they may not have ever even considered before."

Your decision to remove the show I have described above has caused this to be a very sad time for the classic country fans in Southern California as there is no other outlet available on terrestrial radio in Southern California where the classics can be heard.

We the undersigned are writing asking that you reconsider the cancellation of one of the GREATEST shows that KKGO had on the air even BEFORE it went country.

Jimmy Kay and Jeffery Smart have a vast knowledge of classic country and GREAT personalities to go with it, they brought joy to MANY listeners as was shown when they had a listener's bonfire that a great deal of people attended even though it was only talking about on Jimmy Kays show.

We truly hope that you will bring Jimmy Kay, Jeffery Smart and Sunday Night Classics back to KKGO's Sunday night programming.
